Last week I did a short post called Windows Update and The EU Nanny State (KB976002) today I thought I would share with you how to block this annoying and in my opinion unnecessary update. It does mean making changes to your registry settings so please be careful and do a backup of your registry before making any changes.
Today at the Mobile world congress Steve Balmer Microsoft CEO unveiled the new Windows 7 phone and Microsoft’s mobile strategy. Every phone will come with a Bing button to provide access to internet search service from anywhere on the phone. The windows 7 phone also introduces the concept of hubs and with the windows 7 series phone will include 6 hubs
People – Delivering the social networks that the users subscribe too also allowing the users to update their Facebook and Windows live status.
Games – The hub delivers Xbox live to your phone giving you the ability to see gamer’s avatars, profiles and achievements
Pictures – The hub makes it easy to share pictures and video
Music – The phone also comes with a Zune player enabling you to synch content from your PC to the phone
Office – This is the bit I like access to Office, OneNote and SharePoint Workspace.
Marketplace – This hub gives you access to certified applications and games.
Availability is expected to be around the end of 2010 is it an IPhone killer we will see but with the huge install base for the apple IPhone it will be a tough battle.
For those people still running the Windows 7 Release Candidate the time is fast approaching for the windows 7 RC to time out, the schedule will be from February 15th a notice will be displayed stating that from March 1st your computer will shut down periodically.
From March 1st any computer running Windows 7 RC will shut down every 2 hours with no warnings. These shutdowns will continue until June 1st when your copy will become illegal and the black wallpaper will appear and in the lower right corner will appear ‘This copy of Windows is not genuine’
